TOM‘S FAITH

Sobald ich meine Geige stimmte, wurde er lebendig - erwachend aus seiner Demenz bedingten scheinbaren Abwesenheit streckte Tom die Arme in die Höhe - Funken schlugen aus seinen blauen Augen und ohne Zurükhaltung sang er aus vollem Herzen zu den Tönen meiner Geige. Abend um Abend saßen wir so im Wohnzimmer, sangen, improvisierten und fanden Lieder, die er einst kannte. Die Musik brachte zum Vorschein, was sonst hinter einer apathischen Fassade verborgen blieb: Tom war Musik, war Leben durch und durch. Und er war der beste Zuhörer, den ich mir vorstellen konnte - völlig eingetaucht im Fluss der Musik lauschte er auf eine Weise, die mir eine Inspiration nach der anderen entlockte. Musik ist Toms Zuversicht.

As soon as I tuned my violin the life arose in Tom - bursting through the fog of his dementia. He raised his arms... sparks flashing from his blue eyes...without hesitation he sang fully heartedly to the sounds of my violin. Every evening we would sit in his living room, singing, improvising, finding songs that he once knew.
The music brought into life what otherwise lay hidden
behind an apathetic face. Tom was music, he was the life himself. And he was the best audience I could imagine - emerged in the flow of music he listened so deeply that one melody after the other arose.
Music is Tom‘s faith.
